Description

1971 Honda K1 750CC. With only 7900 miles from new ! The last owner bought this bike as a real barn find back in February 2018. It had been brought in from America having spent many years under a cover in a barn somewhere. The amazing thing about this bike is it has only covered 7, 900 miles !

It looked a bit sad when He got it, but the engine had never been apart or messed with. It still had its original points which I don’t think had ever been touched. It had not been ridden for a very long time. He stripped the bike down and went through it from front to back, rebuilding or replacing everything that was needed. The only thing he did not take out of the frame was the engine.

He carried out the following :-

Rebuilt the forks with new seals. The chrome on the fork stanchions was good. Clean and rebuild steering head. New front brake lines and master cylinder and mid junction connection. Strip clean and rebuild front brake caliper and fit new brake pads. New front wheel bearings. Strip rear end and rebuild rear brake assembly with new brake shoes and miscellaneous parts. New rear wheel bearings. Clean and re grease swinging arm pivot point. New rear chain and front and rear sprockets. New rear shocks. New clutch assembly. Carburetors professionally stripped and rebuilt with new seals, jets and all parts replaced where necessary. Carbs set up by tuning specialist on a rolling road with dynojet facility.

All fuel and oil lines replaced. Oil tank taken off and thoroughly washed out. Fuel tank stripped, soda blasted inside and out. New paint to tank, side panels, leg shrouds, headlamp unit. New tyres with less than a couple of hundred miles on. The frame was cleaned and painted where necessary. Mostly original paint. Underbelly gauze filter replaced. New air and oil filters. There was a load of other bits and pieces. Too much to list. The bike rides brilliantly and the engine is like brand new. Runs like a Swiss watch. No smoke, rattles or knocks. This is a fantastic bike with another 50 years of life in it. It is a genuine 1971 K1.

The DVLA registered it on a 72 plate, and he could not be bothered to argue with them. There is a letter of certification from the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club authenticating that it is a 71 K1. The engine and frame numbers are also correct for a 1971, K1. It is in beautiful condition with what we now call some “patina” of age. In other words, it has been sympathetically restored. A great riders example , ready to go at a very reasonable price for a matching numbers K1 !
